Aggravated Battery - Reduced to a Misdemeanor

October 2021

Over 5 years before the arrest of our client (referred to by their initials EC), law enforcement officers responded to a disturbance. After speaking to a mother and daughter who state they were victims in a fight started by EC, they identified EC by name only to the officers. Officers ran the name of our client in their system and discovered outstanding warrants for failure to appear in other charges and obtained another arrest warrant for Aggravated Battery.

Recently, our client was in the passenger seat of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation and was arrested due to the warrant. Mr. Lawrence spoke with the prosecutor on EC's behalf and was able to see the felony crime of violence dropped and EC pled to the misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer for their failure to provide their name upon arrest. The sentence was $150.00 fine and they did not have to return to court.
